Girl hurt as mom reaching for whiskey crashes SUV
CHICAGO - Chicago police have arrested a mother who was allegedly reaching for a bottle of whiskey when her SUV crashed, injuring her 9-year-old daughter.
Officer Michael Fitzpatrick says 48-year-old Cheryl Ranae Reynolds has been charged with reckless driving and aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, among other offenses. He says Reynolds was driving on the city's South Side Saturday evening when the bottle fell to the floor.
Fitzpatrick says she reached for it, causing the crash. He says Reynolds' daughter was sitting in the passenger's seat and hit her head on the windshield. Both were taken to a hospital with injuries.
Officials say testing shows Reynolds blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.

Founder of anti-drug program is held in drug sting
Kendall Craig Farris' website is filled with influential endorsements for the drug prevention program he founded. Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl called them "amazing tools which our schools and communities desperately need" and thanked Farris for meeting with him and his staff.
Something went wrong, however, and Farris was arrested Thursday at a Starbucks in El Segundo after Redondo Beach police set up a drug buy over the phone.
Farris, 47, arrived at the coffeehouse in a taxi, police said. An undercover officer gave him an envelope containing $480 in exchange for methamphetamine and ecstasy tablets, which turned out to be fake, authorities said. Farris was arrested at 3:40 p.m.
Farris was arraigned Friday on charges of selling a substance that he alleged was drugs. He is being held on $106,500 bail and could not be reached for comment.
Farris, according to his website, was founder of the Over the Wall Foundation in Marina del Rey and a recovering alcoholic and addict. His mission, he says, is "to help youth, schools, and families prevent drug and alcohol abuse before it starts, and intervene in any drug abuse which may already have begun."
He is the author of "Drugs, Kids and Crime: Surviving Our Drug Obsessed Culture."

What a stupid idiot
A 39-year-old man was arrested after a security officer determined he had something unusual among the items to be checked at a security checkpoint at the downtown courthouse.
“As the items were checked (the security officer) determined that one item was a marijuana smoking pipe,” an arrest report states.
A deputy checked out the pipe and concluded that, indeed, it was a pot smoking pipe by the smell and residue, the report states.
Clinton J. Gordon, of the 2700 block of Wildwood Lane, faces a misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia charge in connection with the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday incident.

Does a person have to try to be that stupid?
