Tone Loc collapses during Pensacola Beach concert

Rapper Tone Loc has been released from the hospital this morning, hours after he collapsed during a concert at Capt’n Fun Beach Club on Pensacola Beach.

The performer, who was born Anthony Terrell Smith and is best known for late-’80s hits “Wild Thing” and “Funky Cold Medina,” was taken away in an ambulance early this morning, and did not appear to be fully conscious.

He was treated and released at Gulf Breeze Hospital, and has left Pensacola.

In a statement, the rapper's manager, Bobby Bessone with B.A.M. Management/Entertainment Artists Agency, said flight delays and heat contributed to the artist's on-stage collapse.

"Leading up to the show, Tone had flight problems including long layovers," Bessone said via e-mail. "It took him about 12 hours to get to Pensacola from Burbank. Tone was exhausted and very hot on stage, and became ill because of it."

Bessone said the rapper is recovering well, and was appreciative of the attention he received.
